Electricity Tariffs Reduced 2014/09/30

01 November 2014
  • To fall in line with the government policy to reduce electricity tariffs by 25% and subsequent to the Treasury Guidelines on this reduction, CEB prepared a new tariff proposal and submitted the same for the approval of the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka PUCSL on 29th September 2014. Accordingly, PUCSL approval has now been received for the new Electricity Tariff. As per the new tariff, all consumers in the Domestic Category will receive a 25% reduction in their total Electricity Bill.
The new tariff, which would be effective from the 16th September 2014, will be reflected from the October 2014 Electricity Bills. The reduction to electricity tariffs was possible as a result of the completion of the Puttlam Lakvijaya Coal Power Plant, which would now account for about 50% of the total daily energy generation.
